Psychotherapy

Your initial reason for seeking therapy may be a single life-changing event: leaving home, getting married or divorced, dealing with the death of a loved one, moving or changing careers. Or, you may need assistance coping with longer-term challenges like depression, anxiety, or ongoing identity or relationship struggles.

Therapy can help guide you through a particularly challenging phase-of-life, or it can be a long-term tool for keeping you on track with your personal, professional, and relationship goals. And though short-term therapy is an important and effective tool for getting through a tough period, it is my belief that processing/analyzing a single challenging experience inevitably sheds light on the bigger picture: the underlying thoughts and behavioral patterns that lead to challenges in living.

Whether your concerns are acute or ongoing, psychotherapy can help you identify the root causes of emotional and relational challenges both individually and interpersonally. Once we are able to recognize the underlying problematic behavioral and thought patterns that cause difficulty, we can work together to develop strategies that help you break out of these problematic patterns and uncover new, more functional ways to approach experiences. The therapy experience allows you to develop the tools needed to better cope with future changes and the inevitable challenges they create.

I provide longterm and short-term psychotherapy for individuals and couples coping with a variety of ongoing or phase-of-life issues including:

  • leaving home
  • marriage or divorce
  • death of a loved one
  • career changes
  • parenting issues
  • sexual problems

In addition, I particularly focus on and enjoy working with GLBT individuals and couples, as well as parenting coaching/support, and dynamic relationships.
